ABOUT FREEMASONRY

BROTHERLY LOVE
A true Freemason shows tolerance and respect for the views of others, and treats all people with kindness, understanding, and compassion.
RELIEF
Freemasons are encouraged to practise charity and to care not only for their own, but also for the wider community, through both charitable giving and voluntary service.
TRUTH
Freemasons seek truth by upholding high moral standards and striving to live by them in their daily lives. They believe these principles provide a path towards a higher standard of living and conduct.
Freemasonry is one of the oldest fraternal organisations in the world, with a long and proud history in Scotland. While its origins lie in the traditions of working stonemasons, today it is a modern fraternity centred on values that still matter: integrity, friendship, charity, and personal responsibility.
Freemasonry brings together men from all backgrounds in an environment of equality, respect, and support. It offers a space where members can build friendships, learn through shared traditions and symbolism, and grow in confidence and character while making a positive difference in the world around them.
Some of the key benefits of Freemasonry include:
-
Building lasting friendships and a strong sense of community
-
Developing confidence, character, and personal skills
-
Supporting charitable causes and helping others
-
Taking part in a tradition that values heritage, purpose, and belonging

Under the Constitution of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, the essential qualification for membership is a belief in a Supreme Being. Membership is open to men of any race, religion, or background who are of good character and reputation
